71st Ohio Volunteer Infantry - Regimental History

 

This Regiment was organized at Camp Dave Tod, Troy, Ohio, and Paducah, Kentucky, from September, 1861, to January 1862, to service three years. On the expiration of it's term of service the original members (except veterans) were mustered out, and the organization, composed of veterans and recruits, retained in service until November 30, 1865, when it was mustered out in accordance with orders from the War Department.

The official list of battles, in which this Regiment bore an honorable part, is not yet published (1886) by the War Department, but the following list has been compiled, after careful research, during the preparation of this work:
